Ali shares more information about the role:
"Connecting people, building community, enabling discussion, and offering opportunities to hear from outstanding national and international speakers are some of the aspects of the Joint Study Day Coordinator role that I have really valued in the time I have been involved.
I have been in this role since September 2020 and have been part of the transition to online study days (led by Oli Cheadle, former Study Day Coordinator) and access to an even greater number of speakers. I have so enjoyed working with a group of motivated, supportive committee members and you’ll be working alongside Steph Burgess and Alison Nicholas. We really work as a team, connecting by email and WhatsApp and helping each other out as needed.
This role really is ‘joint’. Whilst the three Study Day Coordinators each take a lead in organising one study day per year we help each other out for the other days and build skills as we go along. Oli Cheadle set up a step-by-step guide of ‘what to do when’ and no question is too small, and the committee work to find solutions to queries that come up.
I’ve been involved in hosting study days with Professor Ross Menzies about social anxiety in November 2020 and Professor Vivian Sisskin in October 2021 about the social model and I’m organising a study day in June 2022 to continue conversations about the social model. The role includes contacting speakers, agreeing a date and topic and fee, setting up and recording the Zoom meeting, welcoming members to the day and hosting the study day. The committee works in the background and the marvellous new website developed by Julia Henly, (Communications officer extraordinaire) does a lot of work for us – including certificates.
It's a rewarding role and I’d recommend it. If you would be interested, please send an expression of interest to Kevin Fower (Chair). Please feel free to contact me if you want to have a chat about it. My email is ali.berquez@nhs.net "
