Stammafest is coming!!!

In a few weeks we are excited to be hosting our first conference since the beginning of the pandemic and we can’t wait to have so many people interested in stammering all in one place once more. I’ve written some information about the conference in this blog post and you can also find out more at our website: Stammafest Global In particular, we’re really keen to get families involved in our family day this year. It’s a chance for children who stammer and their parents to meet other people who stammer through a series of fun activities. We have managed to receive a generous grant to offer the tickets for the day at a heavily reduced price, and for families based in the Liverpool area, they may even be able to attend for free (excluding a £5 administrative fee for processing the tickets). I’ve attached some more information about the family day below. STAMMAFest Global Family Day As part of our conference, on Saturday the 27th of August we are hosting a day for children and young people who stammer and their families. We want to give children and teenagers the chance to meet other young people who stammer in a fun and relaxed environment. We want to get as many families of young people who stammer involved as possible. Do you have any people who stammer on your caseload who might enjoy being part of our Family Day? If so please send this information to them! What’s the Plan? During the morning we’ll be running a series of activity sessions for children and young people across three age groups. These sessions could be anything from making fun TikTok style videos to learning circus skills or building sculptures out of playdough or marshmallows. The sessions are designed to encourage children to have fun and talk to one another, but they also aim to build confidence, develop their social skills and support children to have more positive thoughts and feelings about stammering. But it’s not just for the children… For parents and guardians we will have information sessions where you can learn more about stammering, a chance to visit the main conference and discussions led by adults who stammer. Refreshments and lunch are included, and in the afternoon anyone who attends the family day will be able to attend some of our family friendly talks and meet members of our stammering community at the main conference. How much does it cost? Thanks to some generous grants we can offer Family Day tickets at a significantly reduced price of £10 per child and £15 per adult including lunch . If you want to join in with any of our other social activities (such as a coach tour of Liverpool) you can also get tickets for these these at reduced prices for children as well. How can we get our families involved? To register for the Family Day and/or our social events click here . For more information, please take a look at our website and our FAQs page. We have a limited number of places being funded by the Alder Hey Children’s Charity (on behalf of the Willy Russell Centre) for local families. If your families would benefit from support to access the event, please contact Hilary Liddle at Hilary.Liddle@alderhey.nhs.uk Please note that all children and young people attending the Family Day events must be accompanied by a parent. If you or your families have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Best wishes, Catherine Catherine Woolley Children & Families Programme Lead Working Days: Monday, Thursday, Friday
